In-office whitening treatments are ideal for those looking for immediate results. After applying a protective gel to the gums, the teeth whitening solution is applied directly to the teeth and then immediately cured with a special light to begin the whitening process which may take up to one hour. Additionally, Dr. Merlo-Quiñones will fabricate a set of customized trays and give you a whitening solution in order to maintain the desired result.
At-home whitening treatments impressions of your teeth are taken in order to create custom fit trays to apply the gel-like whitening solution. Unlike over the counter whitening kits, customized trays will not only increase the contact of the teeth with the solution but will also minimize the contact of the solution with the gums and tissue that could lead to sensitivity. Depending on the desired level of teeth whitening, at-home treatment takes approximately two weeks.
